OutLook Entertainment and Tribune Media Services Announce JUMBLE®- that Scrambled Word Game! series for Palm Powered™ Mobile Devices at the PalmSource Developer Seminar

Jumble - that Scrambled Word Game Exploits Portability and High-resolution Color Screen of Palm Powered Handhelds.

PALMSOURCE DEVELOPER SEMINAR, SAN MATEO, Calif. -- May 6, 2003 -- At the PalmSource Developer Seminar, the annual gathering of the Palm OS Economy, OutLook Entertainment (OEI) and Tribune Media Services (TMS) today announced JUMBLE® - that Scrambled Word Game for Palm Powered™ handhelds. JUMBLE® is the first in a series of products for Palm OS®, which features the signature art and humorous brainteasers that fans around the country have followed since 1954. More than 600 U.S. newspapers, with a combined readership of more than 70 million carry JUMBLE®. Its nearly 50-year-history makes it the most recognizable scrambled word game to millions of players.

Following right on the release of JUMBLE® will be the second in the series; JUMBLE® for Kids. Nothing beats JUMBLE® for Kids to introduce youngsters to the joy of scrambled wordplay. It's the interactive word puzzle that has been entertaining and educating children long before "interactive" became a buzzword. Several years of the most popular JUMBLE® for Kids weekly content has been packed into a Palm OS application that features fun riddles and cartoons specifically geared to the skill level and humor of kids between the ages of 8 and 14.

The availability of high-density color displays on the Tungsten series was vital in the decision to bring JUMBLE® series to the Palm OS platform," said Kevin Mitchell, president of OEI. "At the same time the crisp color displays of the standard-density Palm handhelds also provided the ability to implement an intuitive user interface, where an optimized thumbnail of the cartoon can be instantly zoomed to a full-screen display with a tap of the stylus."

In order to deliver hundreds of JUMBLE® Puzzles in every product, it was imperative to utilize state of the art image compression for the color cartoons, to insure the smallest RAM footprint as possible. Additionally a monochrome version of JUMBLE® with all of the same puzzles will be available to run in 2mb units such as the Palm Zire. Additional compression technologies will also be implemented in order to decrease the typical download required for Internet sales.

Years of the most popular Classic JUMBLE® Puzzles have been organized into Jumble Theme Libraries (Sports, At Work, Summer Fun, Romance, Travel, and Animals.) The first JUMBLE® will feature the Sports and At Work Themes, and the product has been designed for easy expansion. Initial retail packaged distribution of the JUMBLE® series will feature CD-based products. However JUMBLE® has also been designed from the start to support the additional planned Jumble Theme Libraries, which at a future point would be implemented on MMC cards for simplicity of use.

"We have enjoyed tremendous success in creating JUMBLE® licensed products that appeal to a wide variety of consumers. The availability of JUMBLE® for Palm OS expands the reach of one of our most popular properties to a whole new audience sector," said Elyce Goldstein, director of licensing, TMS. "JUMBLE® is an excellent fit for this technology, and we are delighted to partner with Palm and OutLook Entertainment to bring premium TMS content to handheld users."

"JUMBLE for Palm OS is like having an interactive, color newspaper in the palm of your hand. Jumble captures the dynamics of the original series and delivers a highly interactive, addictive gaming experience," said Larry Berkin, director of developer marketing for PalmSource, Inc.
