PalmSource and Visto To Create Email Messaging Client for Palm OS Platform
CeBIT AMERICA, NEW YORK, - June 18, 2003 - PalmSource, Inc., provider of the popular operating system for handheld and smartphone devices, and Palm OS® subsidiary of Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM), and Visto Corp., the leading provider of personal and corporate mobile access solutions that are easy to install, administer and use, today announced that the companies will work together to build a standard enterprise-grade wireless email client for the Palm OS platform. PalmSource and Visto will co-market the new default messaging solution to Palm OS licensees and their wireless operators, resulting in easier integration with existing IT infrastructures.
The new email client for the Palm OS platform will provide secure, reliable push-email capabilities between Palm Powered™ mobile devices and enterprise-grade mail servers such as Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino, as well as access to POP3/IMAP mail servers, allowing enterprise users to stay connected to data while away from the office. The new email client will become the default messaging solution for the Palm OS platform.
"Visto's carrier-agnostic platform and the flexibility of the Palm OS platform enables the creation of the strongest enterprise-grade email client for Palm OS licensees and their users," said David Nagel, president and CEO of PalmSource, Inc. "The built-in email client will allow enterprises to quickly deploy a variety of Palm Powered devices already tailored to work with leading messaging solutions."
"PalmSource's selection of Visto validates the fact that Visto has great products, financial stability, compelling intellectual property and customer traction, making us the global market leader in mobility solutions," said Brian Bogosian, chairman, president and CEO of Visto. "We believe the combination of the Palm OS and the Visto wireless email architecture will provide an extremely compelling solution to Palm OS device licensees, wireless operators, and their enterprise users."
