WebToGo releases flagship WebToGo Mobile Internet 4.1 with Document Viewer at PalmSource European Developer Conference

Munich, Germany, September 22nd, 2003 At the European PalmSource Developer Conference, WebToGo released a new version of its flagship software, the Mobile Internet Solution for Palm OS®. Mobile Internet Version 4.1 will allow the user to view PDF and Word documents through a Web browser. As these documents are converted to html, mobile download speeds are dramatically increased. In addition, the new version adds support for Palm Powered™ smartphones that run on CDMA networks. Version 4.1 is ready for download from www.webtogoeurope.com.

WebToGo has made some serious improvements to its proprietary server optimisation technology: The browser now offers document rendering and improved frame support.

A large number of information on the Web is packaged in Word and PDF documents and therefore inaccessible via mobile browsers. WebToGo users can now make use of this content. The improved proxy server translates documents into HTML and displays the content in the browser. The transformation is done automatically and does not need any user input, but gives the user the option to browse page by page. A typical document is compressed by the server to 25 percent of the original data volume, thereby greatly increasing download speed and value for money and thus directly addressing the two main concerns of today's mobile internet users.

Furthermore, until now frames could not or only unsatisfactorily be displayed on handheld browsers. No longer. The WebToGo Optimisation Server mirrors the layout of a frames page, displaying enough content in each frame to allow the user to decide which frame to open.

Both features are entirely server-based and do not require a software upgrade on the client.

More Platforms:
To date, only GSM network users could utilize WebToGo. This left 60 million American and 150 million CDMA users worldwide sidelined. WebToGo 4.1 is now available for Handspring's Treo 300, in addition to Palm Powered smartphones from Samsung and Kyocera that support CDMA networks. In the U.S., WebToGo 4.1 is also available for the Palm Tungsten W that supports GSM networks.

Further Improvements:
There is a revised Email client that uses far less memory. The entire package now supports high-resolution TFT screens and has been visually redesigned. Components can now be stored to memory cards.
