PalmSource Welcomes European Developers with Awards, New German Online Software Store; and Announces 30 Million Palm Powered Devices Sold WorldWide

MUNICH, Germany, September 22, 2003 - PalmSource, Inc., provider of the popular operating system for handhelds and smartphones and the Palm OS® subsidiary of Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM), welcomed Palm OS developers at its European Developer Conference today. During his opening keynote talk, PalmSource President and CEO, David Nagel, launched a new German Palm OS software online store with Pdassi, announced the number of Palm Powered™ devices sold worldwide to date surpassed 30 million, and honored four Palm OS developers with Powered Up Awards.

Hosting hundreds of European developers at the Conference, PalmSource marks an important milestone in the success of the Palm Economy. More than 19,000 applications created by Palm OS developers provide a vast reservoir of solutions that help make Palm Powered mobile devices more useful to their customers' lives. The power, flexibility and ease of use of Palm OS creates a framework for developers to build innovative solutions for different markets. Leveraging the Palm OS Developer Program, developers gain access to the tools and information they need to produce software that enhances the functionality of Palm Powered handhelds and smartphones.

Borland has licensed the PalmSource software development kits (SDKs)
PalmSource and Borland annouced Borland has licensed the PalmSource software development kits (SDKs) and will support Palm OS development in the Borland C++BuilderX Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and latest Borland Applicaton Lifecycle Management (ALM) solutions for C++. Borland C++BuilderX is a pure C++ development solution designed to provide true end-to-end development capabilities for the growing number of organizations extending their business infrastructure to include mobile applications and devices. In addition, C++BuilderX eases development of these mobile applications with the introduction of Rapid Application Development (RAD) capabilities for C++. This technology preview offers a new visual designer for drag and drop development and easier access to internally developed and third party mobile component libraries. By combining these capabilities with PalmSource SDKs, Palm OS developers are able to create innovative enterprise applications both for the enterprise and the individual in an increasingly mobile workforce.

New German Palm OS Software Store
PalmSource and Pdassi announced the launch of a new German Palm OS software online store, available through PalmSource's German website www.palmsource.com/de. The store is designed to provide improved distribution to German-speaking Palm OS users, and underscores PalmSource's commitment to creating new business opportunities for the 275,000-strong Palm OS developer community. The store will include a broad selection of applications with a special emphasis on showcasing the two thousand German developers and five thousand European developers whose Palm OS products are available in German versions. In doing so, PalmSource will leverage the technologies, distribution relationships and localization capabilities of Pdassi.de. Pdassi has more than three years of experience in the retailing of Palm OS software and has extensive know-how in development of localized databases of applications, and intuitive, simple tools that help users find and purchase the software they want. In addition, Pdassi has worked extensively with international companies to localize their software into high quality German versions.

Palm Powered Devices Surpass 30 Million Units Sold To Date
PalmSource also announced the number of Palm Powered™ devices sold worldwide to date has surpassed 30 million. Palm OS enables mobile device manufacturers to developer a variety of products at a wide range of price points ranging from basic handheld devices to high-end multi-media and game devices, smartphones, wristwatches and industrial handhelds. At the same time, Palm OS offers users a consistent operating experience and the ability to run a common set of applications on any Palm Powered device. The Palm Powered licensee community currently includes 14 mobile device manufacturers: Aceeca, AlphaSmart, Fossil, Garmin, GSL, Handspring, HuneTec, Kyocera, Lenovo, Palm Solutions Group, Samsung, Sony, Symbol and Tapwave.

The Palm OS platform has attracted a large and loyal following with more than 275,000 developers building applications for Palm Powered mobile devices. The Palm OS developer community has created over 19,000 software applications in a broad range of categories including Web browsers, email and Internet communications, sales force and field automation, personal productivity, groupware, financial management and games. These solutions are designed to increase the value to the end user by offering customization of Palm Powered devices and help expand the market for our licensee's products and services.

Created by PalmSource to celebrate innovative Palm OS applications from our European developer community, the 2003 European Powered Up winners are:

Best European Productivity Solution: PiLoc by Paragon Software, a comprehensive language localization solution for the Palm Powered mobile device.

Best European Enterprise Solution: Agendus Professional by iambic, a complete and integrated contact management and communications solution for the Palm Powered mobile device. Contacts, Calendar and To Do List history, linking and grouping, together with integrated email and SMS allow users to manage business information and corporate communication.

Best European Leisure and Entertainment Solution: Table Tennis 3D by Xavier Martin is an interactive table tennis simulation game on the Palm Powered mobile device. The award recognizes the quality of the graphics and an the array of digitized sounds and customizable features found in the program.

Best European Student Developer Solution: ProjectX, by Alexander Mlazev, is a fast-paced action adventure game on the Palm Powered mobile device.
