Pumatech partners with PalmSource in launch of Palm Powered Mobile World program.
New Initiative Unites Mobile Operators, Infrastructure Providers and Software Developers To Boost Adoption of the Palm OS® Platform in Consumer and Enterprise Markets
SAN JOSE, CA November 18, 2003 - Pumatech, Inc. (NASDAQ: PUMA), a leading provider of synchronization software and services, was one of several mobile infrastructure partners invited to help PalmSource, Inc. (NASDAQ: PSRC) launch its new Palm Powered Mobile World program at COMDEX in Las Vegas, Nev., yesterday. PalmSource - provider of Palm OS®, a leading operating system powering next-generation mobile devices and smartphones - created the Palm Powered Mobile World program to connect mobile operators, infrastructure providers and software developers in a wireless ecosystem that capitalizes on the growing smartphone market.
One of the objectives of Palm Powered Mobile World is to provide mobile infrastructure partners like Pumatech with additional distribution channels into the wireless market. As a charter member of the Palm Powered Mobile World program, Pumatech is demonstrating the following solutions in the PalmSource booth (#10448) at the COMDEX event this week in Las Vegas:
- TrueSync® Server software gives wireless carriers and mobile operators the ability to add value by offering their customers multi-point synchronization services for SyncML phones and Palm OS handhelds.
- Synchrologic Mobile Suite extends existing technology infrastructure to mobile and remote staff, delivering access to enterprise applications, file content, email and PIM data, intranet sites, and Web content. It also provides valuable tools for remotely managing mobile devices.
- Spontaneous sVPN delivers a carrier-grade, enterprise-ready mobility solution that allows simple, secure, end-to-end enablement of enterprise applications for Palm OS devices.
"We're excited about partnering with PalmSource to strengthen their relationship with mobile operators and promote overall growth of the smartphone market," said Pumatech Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Clyde Foster. "We believe Pumatech's solutions provide mobile operators with a wide range of capabilities that fully leverage the Palm OS and extend the value of operators' products and services."
The Palm Powered Mobile World program consists of two key elements. The first element of the Palm Powered Mobile World program is designed to make Palm OS the most service-ready platform for smart mobile devices by providing leading mobile operators the opportunity to collaborate with PalmSource to integrate their feedback and requirements into the Palm OS platform development efforts. The second element enables leading mobile operators to work closely with PalmSource to create a select catalog of software titles for over-the-air (OTA) delivery to Palm Powered™ smartphones. This Mobile World catalog will draw from over 20,000 Palm OS software titles tailored to the consumer and enterprise markets, giving mobile operators the opportunity to increase average revenue and average margin per user by selling Palm Powered smart mobile devices with a Mobile World catalog of software applications.
"Palm Powered Mobile World is a key strategic initiative designed to ignite the growth of the new wireless Palm economy," said David Nagel, president and chief executive officer of PalmSource, Inc. "We believe that this program creates a tremendous revenue-generating opportunity for mobile operators, infrastructure providers and software developers. Palm Powered Mobile World also makes it easier for customers to purchase wireless Palm OS applications over-the-air from their Palm Powered smartphone, changing the whole user experience of buying and installing applications on smart mobile devices."
