Kinoma Launches Kinoma Player 2 For Chinese Market

Lenovo is First Kinoma Licensee

BEIJING, China, December 8, 2003 - At the PalmSource China Developer Conference, Kinoma today announced the availability of Chinese Simplified version of Kinoma Player 2. Lenovo, the largest IT corporation in PRC, is the first licensee of the new product. Kinoma Player 2 is one of the most popular video players for Palm OS® and is currently bundled with selected Palm Powered™ smart mobile devices from palmOne, Sony, and Tapwave.

Lenovo, formerly known as Legend, is a diversified technology company providing advanced IT products and services. Its PCs have been the best selling brand for six consecutive years in China since 1997 and the best seller in the Asia Pacific region (excluding Japan) for three consecutive years since 2000. Now employing over 10,000 staff, Lenovo was ranked first among the Top 100 Electronic Enterprises in China for both 1999 and 2000. Initially Lenovo will release Kinoma Player with its new Palm OS product the P100 and P200, which were also announced today.

More than just a powerful media player, Kinoma Player 2 is a platform for delivering interactive multimedia applications to Palm Powered smart mobile devices. Together with iShell Mobile from Tribeworks, creative professionals and educators can combine video, VR, images, text, databases, buttons, and interactivity to create interactive Kinoma applications. Kinoma interactive applications are already being used by eNature to deliver their mobile field guides, by Sony for their e-English Gym Pocket language learning software, by the Kansas City Symphony for their groundbreaking Concert Companion, and by palmOne to deliver their interactive point of sale presentations.

Kinoma Producer 2, is the companion product to Kinoma Player, making it easier than ever to take your desktop video wherever you go. With an all new user interface, Kinoma Producer 2 guides users through the process of encoding video. Novice users will appreciate the straightforward, highly visual user interface while power users will immediately benefit from the streamlined interface and ability to create their own encoding presets.

With more content available in the DivX file format, Kinoma Producer 2 now directly encodes
Kinoma movies from this popular format. So that your handheld movies will look and sound their best, Kinoma Producer 2 supports stereo audio, higher video bit rates, and widescreen video at up to thirty frames per second. Kinoma Producer 2 can also encode video at lower bit rates for Internet delivery directly to Palm OS 5 handhelds with an Internet connection.

"Kinoma Player 2 and iShell Mobile for Palm OS introduce a new generation of digital media functionality on Palm Powered smart mobile devices," said Larry Berkin, director of developer marketing, PalmSource. "We believe that now content developers have an indispensable tool to create, view and edit high quality, interactive applications and establish a new category of media content for Palm Powered devices providing flexibility and usability that extends far beyond the desktop."
