SUNNY BUDDY monitors and records solar power performance
SAN JOSE, Calif. February 10, 2004 — At the PalmSource Developer Conference, Poohbah Industries today announced the new Sunny Buddy Solution Software for Palm Powered™ devices. Solar power is the leading environmentally-friendly energy source and Sunny Buddy is the first product that enables users to inexpensively and easily monitor the performance of their solar power generation system.
"We see this new monitoring tool as a perfect low cost solution to track and view performance of a Sunny Boy solar power system," said John Berdner, President of SMA-America, Inc, manufacturers of Sunny Boy solar power inverters.
"We believe the Sunny Buddy application is a perfect example of the versatility in solutions enabled by the flexible and open Palm OS® platform," said Larry Berkin, director of developer marketing of PalmSource, Inc." "This application provides the user with a measurement tool while on the go, eliminating the need for an expensive dedicated desktop computer.
Capture the energy of the sun and monitor it with Sunny Buddy. Setup and operation is quick and simple. Connect the serial cradle to the Sunny Boy communications interface and start the Sunny Buddy software. Sunny Buddy automatically configures itself for the solar inverter and immediately begins to display and record solar performance. Sunny Buddy displays numerical and graphical performance data in color on a Palm Powered device. In addition to displaying solar power performance in real-time, Sunny Buddy saves a detailed performance history in convenient spreadsheet format to device's plug-in memory card. The memory card can be hot-swapped while Sunny Boy is operating and the card copied to a desktop computer for detailed analysis of the performance history at the user's convenience.
Palm OS is known for the power and flexibility of its sophisticated, easy-to-use interface. As the foundation for approximately 30 million mobile devices sold to date, Palm OS platform provides an open, modular architecture that allows licensees to create innovative products in a variety of sizes and form factors for both individuals and enterprise users.
Sunny Buddy is available for use with Sunny Boy solar inverters manufactured by SMA-America, Inc. Over 80,000 Sunny Boy solar inverters have been sold worldwide and are used in over 90 percent of new solar installations in the United States.
Sunny Boy software is currently undergoing field certification and will be available mid-year for an estimated street price of less than one hundred dollars US on the web at www.poohbah.com.
