PalmSource and ITM Technology AG Launch the Palm Powered hagenuk SmartPhone S 200 in Germany

CTIA WIRELESS, New Orleans, March 14, 2005 — PalmSource, Inc. (NASDAQ: PSRC), provider of Palm OS®, a leading operating system powering next generation phones and mobile devices today kicked off its participation in CTIA Wireless 2005 by showcasing the continued momentum of the Palm Powered™ Economy. PalmSource is highlighting the following at CTIA:

  • The Company is exhibiting in the Enterprise Mobility Pavilion (booth 5712) where it will be demonstrating a number of enterprise applications on a variety of Palm Powered devices.
  • PalmSource licensee, GSPDA announced that the Xplore M–Series smartphones are now available for the North American market.
  • JP Mobile and MessageVine have joined the Palm Powered Mobile World partner program.
  • Palm OS Ready Program partner (POSR) partner M–Systems announced plans to optimize DiskOnChip H–series products for the Palm OS platform
  • Larry Slotnick, PalmSource chief product officer, will participate on a panel discussing the trends and challenges in the mobile device market.

New Smartphones for North American Market
PalmSource licensee, Group Sense PDA Limited (GSPDA), today announced its entry into the North American market with the availability of its Xplore M–series smartphones. GSPDA, one of the largest sellers of handheld products in Asia and the subsidiary of Group Sense (International) Limited (GSL, HKEx: 0601) is launching the popular Palm Powered Xplore M28, M68 and M98 smartphones in North America.

Joining the existing Palm Powered Xplore G18 and G88 smartphone product family, the Xplore M–series combines the industry–leading Palm OS and state–of–the–art wireless and multimedia features in a compact form factor. The Xplore M–series consists of three devices: the Xplore M28, Xplore M68 and Xplore M98.

PalmSource to Exhibit in Enterprise Mobility Pavilion
Located in booth 5712 in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, PalmSource will demonstrate a variety of third party enterprise applications on a number of Palm Powered devices. Applications being demonstrated include:

FieldRanger: FieldRanger's Dispatch Software is designed to replace paper work orders and increase productivity in the office and in the field. It enables users to assign work orders and estimates to specific employees, view an electronic scheduled by week and review information as it is received from and sent to the field via a wireless data connection.

IBM: PalmSource and IBM will demonstrate a number of enterprise applications and technologies including:

  • An industry–standard Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) runtime environment supplied by IBM's WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment. This offering is designed to allow enterprises to access back office applications and data on demand from their mobile devices in the field.
  • IBM WebSphere Everyplace Mobile Portal, designed to help service providers and wireless carriers deliver services content and applications quickly to customers in real–time worldwide.
  • IBM WebSphere Everyplace Connection Manager, designed to boost the productivity of mobile workers by giving them highly secure, uninterrupted access to data.
  • IBM Lotus SameTime Everyplace, is designed to enable users to send and receive instant messages to mobile and desktop users.
  • IBM WebSphere Everyplace Access, makes mobile applications available on demand with an increasingly flexible, reliable and resilient wireless infrastructure.
  • IBM Workplace Client Technology, Micro Edition, provides an end–to–end solution connecting cellular phones, handhelds and other mobile devices to e–business.

JP Mobile: SureWave Mobile Office is designed as an end–to–end, behind the firewall mobile office connectivity solution with on–device security and over–the air encryption. Users of Palm Powered™ phones and mobile devices and have access to complete, wireless or cradle–based synchronization of e–mail, calendars, tasks, attachments and contacts. SureWave's client offers seamless integration with available Palm OSÒ applications, allowing users to have a familiar and intuitive experience, and eliminating the need to learn a new interface.

MT Impossible: Win–Hand from MT Impossible offers a remote desktop connection designed to allow a user to access the desktop of their PC directly from a Palm Powered wireless handheld or smartphone. Running the Win–Hand client on a PC in combination with the Win–Hand Connection Server (hosted by MT Impossible) enables users to bypass most corporate and personal firewalls.

Sendia: Sendia's Wireless Sales Force Automation (SFA) is designed to enable sales professionals to quickly access their salesforce.com information anywhere, anytime – at client meetings, on sales calls, even on an airplane via their Palm Powered phone or mobile device. Sendia's Wireless SFA delivers superior speed, reliability and ease–of–use.

Tradewind Technologies: the SDIO RFID reader from Tradewind Technologies, exclusively for Palm Powered™ handhelds and smartphones, is designed to enable the reading and writing of standard and proprietary RFID 13.56 MHz tags and smart labels from up to 7cm distance.

New Palm Powered Mobile World Partners
JP Mobile, a leading provider of enterprise mobility software, and MessageVine, a company focused on developing professional instant (IM) messaging, presence and real–time communication solutions for phones and mobile devices, have joined Palm Powered Mobile World as infrastructure partners. Palm Powered Mobile World connects international mobile operators, infrastructure and middleware partners and application developers to bring Palm OS® software solutions to market and provide a superior user experience for Palm Powered phones.

  • JP Mobile
    As a PPMW partner, JP Mobile will optimize its flagship product, SureWaveâ Mobile Office, for the Palm OS platform. SureWave is a reliable, easy–to–deploy, network–independent 'push' e–mail/PIM solution with fully integrated, end–to–end–security.

  • MessageVine
    Through its collaboration with PalmSource, MessageVine will provide IM and presence solutions for the Palm OS platform. MessageVine's solutions enable users to enjoy always–on, secure real–time communications based on rich presence information, through a friendly and intuitive user interface on their mobile device.

POSR Program Update
PalmSource Palm OS Ready Program (POSR) partner M–Systems today announced updates to its participation in the POSR program. The Palm OS Ready Program allows industry–leading component providers to drive faster innovation of Palm Powered devices and foster growth throughout the Palm Powered Economy. Combining access to key components of Palm OS technology with in–depth technical training and resources, the Palm OS Ready Program is designed to provide silicon and peripheral providers the ability to deliver more complete solutions to the Palm OS licensee community enabling Palm OS licensees to bring innovative and differentiated Palm Powered mobile devices to market faster and more efficiently.

  • M–Systems
    M–Systems, an innovator of flash–based data storage products, today announced its plans to collaborate with PalmSource to integrate support for the M–System's DiskOnChip H–Series products for Palm Powered phones. As a partner in PalmSource's POSR program, M–Systems provides Palm OS licensees flash–based memory storage technologies designed for Palm Powered smart mobile devices. M–Systems' approach to managing flash memory is designed to allow licensees to speed time–to–market and lower overall device costs for Palm Powered™ handhelds and smartphones.

CTIA Plenary Session Participation
Larry Slotnick, PalmSource chief product officer, will participate in a plenary session entitled "Mobile Device Trends and Challenges" on Tuesday, March 15 at 1:00 p.m. in room 260–262.
