Palm OS Application to Monitor Online Traffic and Calculate Data Transfer Costs

SAN JOSE, Calif., PalmSource Mobile Summit and DevCon, May 24, 2005 — nova media MDS GmbH introduces "Cost Control", a software application for Palm Powered™ devices, to monitor online traffic and calculate data transfer costs. The tool tracks time and volume information for any online session while connected to a mobile phone, smartphone or WiFi access, including palmOne's Treo™ devices running on GSM/ GPRS connections.

The small application is able to create extensive cost reports based on the user's billing information. "Cost Control" supports different subscription plans including free time and volume allowance, daily and monthly basic charges, dial–in and connection fees, billing per kilobyte and much more.

"Cost Control" can report the status of the current connection including IP address and connection speed. Furthermore, it creates a monthly statistic of all connections as well as detailed information for any single connection. These detailed reports include date and time of any connection, the time spent online, the amount of data transferred while uploading and downloading data as well as the total amount of transferred data.

"Cost Control" is integrated into the command bar of the Palm OS operating system. Thus it is possible to gain a quick overview of the time spent online and data volume of the current online session from any application.
