SAN JOSE, Calif., PalmSource Mobile Summit and DevCon, May 24, 2005 — Quartus Handheld Software today announced version 2.0.0 of the Quartus Forth on–board compiler for the Palm OS® platform. Quartus Forth enables developers to create, compile, and test applications directly on their Palm Powered™ mobile device or smartphone. Quartus Forth, combined with Palm OS, provides a complete solution for application developers.

Unlike many development tools, applications written using Quartus Forth are native–code, can be distributed royalty–free, and require no run–time libraries.

Quartus Forth compiles ANS Standard Forth, a high–speed, modern programming language that is concise and fits well on the high resolution, compact screens of Palm Powered devices. An interactive console provides for direct testing and debugging of each successive module in an application.

Quartus Forth 2.0.0 is a major upgrade providing full Palm OS® Garnet compatibility, extended documentation, and a range of additional features to make application development even easier.

With seamless integrated access to nearly 900 Palm OS system routines, and over 6,200 named constants and structures, Quartus Forth delivers the full power of Palm OS to the developer.
