PalmSource Showcases the Strength of Palm OS Applications in Education at NECC
Palm OS developers to demonstrate leading Palm OS applications at PalmSource booth
PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania, June 28, 2005 — PalmSource, Inc. (NASDAQ: PSRC), provider of Palm OS®, a leading operating system powering next generation phones and mobile devices, will highlight Palm OS applications from a number of developers in the PalmSource booth during NECC 2005.
PalmSource will showcase a variety of education applications from a number of market leaders for handheld solutions for Palm Powered™ devices including, Grant Street Software, Inc., Infinity Software, Inc. and K12 Handhelds, Inc. The applications demonstrate how both educators and students can use handhelds and smart mobile devices as innovative educational tools to promote effective teaching and learning.
"Teachers have integrated Palm OS handheld technology in a wide variety of instructional activities," said Larry Berkin, director of developer marketing, PalmSource, Inc. "Students can now accomplish almost everything with a mobile device they used to do with desktop computers. We believe the legendary ease–of–use of Palm OS applications provides for an ideal tool to maximize learning, increase student motivation and introduce technology in a fun way."
"In our K–12 science school project with Palm OS handheld technology, students collaborated to use Internet materials, aggregated data to think about difficult science concepts, shared ideas and supported each other," said Jim Slotta, adjunct professor of education at the University of California, Berkeley, and director of WISE, the Web–based Inquiry Science Environment. "The results of the project showed that the ubiquitous use of handhelds not only extends the functionality of a school curriculum but also enhances the study of science beyond the classroom which engages students in learning and makes science more interesting and accessible."
The breadth and variety of Palm OS applications ranging from productivity software for teachers to interactive simulation tools for students will be demonstrated at the PalmSource booth, 831.
